Palladio worked for nearly
twenty-five years on I quattro libri , an immensely influential work that "made Palladio the
most imitated architect of all time" (Ackerman). Palladio's neo-Rennaissance followers include Inigo Jones, Christopher Wren, and Thomas
Jefferson. In fact, Jefferson's designs for his Monticello estate and
the University of Virginia were based on Palladio's Four Books, which Jefferson
referred to as his "Bible".
